Having graduated in medicine from University College London, Amlan completed his specialist training at the Maudsley Hospital.

He has held several high-profile positions in his career, notably as Clinical Director of Broadmoor Hospital where he was a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist. Amlan held an honorary contract at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King’s College London for over 17 years, publishing a number of research papers in the fields of genetics, psychopharmacology and service development. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. He has been a member of the Expert Witness Institute for over 10 years and has provided expert evidence in a number of high-profile cases, including national inquiries. He has previously been a Non-Executive Director in the NHS.
